PLANNING; TREATMENT

Film Title: The Unhinging

Its 2014. INDIA, a 16 year old girl, has been kidnapped. She is being held within the basement of a gothic, dimly lit, Tudor style house located in a isolated, remote area of rural Britian. The kidnapper is a 25 year old male who is mentally ill. The house is situated in a woodland far away from amenities to show how he is separated from society.

The male, JACK, has had a troubled past, with an abusive mother and absent father. Growing up he was an outcast with no loving family or friends. This has lead him to insanity, and the point where he is deluded and cannot tell the real from the unreal. He kidnaps people desperately trying to find a friend.

The film starts seeing INDIA’s eyes; they look to the left. And there is a cross cut flashback showing INDIA walk to the gym from a point-of-view shot behind her, she has headphones on and is oblivious to the world around her. INDIA’s eyes then look right there is a flashback to a midi-shot showing an arm come round INDIA and holding a cloth to her face as she eventually stops fighting.

The basement INDIA is kept in is ill maintained, kept in horrific, dirty conditions. She is tied up, however she is still fed and given water being treated as a pet, JACK wanting her alive. INDIA has been trapped for 72 hours, she has multiple wounds around her body. She is becoming weaker and loosing the will to escape.

We see JACK look into a mirror, as we hear audio of jack being shouted at by his mother. JACK then smashes the mirror. This leads to a visual flashback, using a match shot to show the mirror, intact and in front of it his mother shouting at YOUNG JACK. We then see JACK pick up a piece of the broken mirror and start walking over to INDIA, as we hear her pleas for him to not hurt her. He then cuts the side of her face with the mirror piece. He drops the mirror piece and walks out of the basement door. We then see a reaction shot in the broken mirror puts showing only the cut on INDIA’s face. We see India trying to reach for the piece of broken glass JACK has dropped. JACK goes up stairs towards the attic, we hear a voiceover of a news reporter talking about INDIA missing and how she is assumed dead. There are cuts to INDIA tipping the chair she is in over and grabbing the piece of broken glass. We then see the lady on the news again. We then see INDIA using the broken mirror to cut the ropes and freeing herself. She then runs to the basement door and opening it, she peers out the door checking the coast is clear.

She then sneaks and runs into the hallway, we see a tracking shot of their feet. On her way out of the house she snatches a phone from a table by the door and runs from the house. We see an over the shoulder shoot as JACK see’s INDIA leave through the open door and runs through the woodlands. We have a match shot where we see INDIA move some branches with her hands this cuts to her hands being tied up when she was in the basement. INDIA then is running we see this at a low angle shot. There is then a midi-shot and we see the girl's neck which is bruised and cut goes into a match shot where there is a knife next to the girls neck as if he had just cut her.

There is then a Point Of View shot of JACK and we see INDIA running not far ahead of him.
We then see INDIA stop, her lips parted breathing heavily this match cuts to her lips parted and JACKs finger pressed to her lips in a shushing motion. INDIA looks around and pulls out the phone calling 999.

JACK walks towards INDIA in a point of view shoot; we see her lifting the phone to her ear and talking to the operator.  We hear a heartbeat as INDIA turns around, showing her full face.

JACK rising a gun up, we then see the movie title.

We then see a phone on the floor abandoned and an operator saying “That was INDIA”

  1. Use present tense throughout. Proof read this post.
On the artistic side, what will make this film opening different from all the other 'running through woods' chase sequences?
